Course #3: Leading with Influence & Empathy

The evolution towards a more human-centric leadership approach requires profound awareness of ourselves and others to create inclusive and truly supportive team environments.

Building upon the knowledge of their own neurological thinking preferences and on how to create high-performing teams using neurodiversity, your students will increase awareness of who they are and how they are perceived by others.

Based on a deep understanding of cognitive diversity, they will learn how to develop an authentic leadership approach that motivates diverse teams and supports the individual needs of their people.

Day 1, Sessions 1 & 2: Leading with Influence

Overview:
Leadership is complex and traditional leadership styles can result in a disconnect between leaders and their teams. The evolution towards a more human-centric approach requires profound awareness of ourselves and others.

Your students will increase awareness of who they are and how they are perceived by others and, based on a deep understanding of cognitive diversity, they will learn how to develop an authentic leadership approach that motivates diverse teams and supports the individual needs of others.

  • Analyzing our own unique cognitive and behavioral leadership profile
  • Deciphering cognitive abilities and preferences in yourself and others
  • Predicting sources of misunderstanding and conflict through the Overlay Effect
  • Creating psychological safety through advanced neurological understanding

Day 2, Session 1: Leading with Empathy

Overview:
The key point of empathetic leadership – that empathy is experienced differently by each of us – is often overlooked. By understanding these complexities, we can directly improve leadership performance.

Your students will learn that empathy can be refined and developed through an understanding of cognitive and affective processing – and that the outcomes can be used to inform effective leadership strategy and decision-making.

  • Defining empathy and its link to leadership performance
  • The limitations of empathy in ethical decision-making
  • What research shows us about affective versus cognitive empathetic processing
  • Analyzing the empathetic spectrum to isolate our individual biases

Day 2, Session 2: Unlocking Your Team’s Potential

Overview:
Most meetings are frustrating and unproductive. However, they provide an incredible opportunity to share ideas, create innovative and practical solutions, and move the needle for your team and organization — but only if we take a different approach.

Using the latest research on human behavior and organizational culture, your students will learn innovative tools and techniques for planning and leading efficient, inclusive, and engaging meetings that unlock the potential of themselves, their colleagues, and their team.
